Our
'Public Service' Program
In order to meet one of our mission goals -- i.e., to prepare
well-rounded, future leaders for our country who are willing to give of
themselves through servanthood -- Faith Christian School will require,
beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, a minimum number of
hours of "public service" for all students who wish to
graduate from the school. All such public service must be done on a
voluntary basis -- that is, there is no direct financial reward to the
student (from parents or otherwise).
Areas of voluntary public
service can include, but are not limited to, service to (1) a student's
church (e.g., nursery care, teaching/assisting with Sunday school for
6th grade or lower, work day, etc.); (2) a student's neighborhood or
community (e.g., clean-up project, library volunteer, youth
organization project); (3) a non-profit Christian ministry or
organization (e.g., Touched by an Angel, American Family Radio, Special
Olympics); or (4) a mission trip (domestic or foreign). NOTE: A single
mission trip can account for a maximum of 40 hours toward graduation
requirements.
All voluntary public service accomplishments must be documented and
verified by a responsible adult associated with the group or community
benefiting from the student's involvement -- a church pastor/youth
pastor, a club sponsor, or a ministry leader, for example. It is the
student's responsibility to see that this is done. Service that is not
documented will not be applicable to the graduation requirements. There
will be no exceptions.
The school provides a form for documenting students' public service
work. Students can request copies from the school office at any time
during the school year or download and print out the form here
